Technology & implementation
A migration starts with an inventory of every existing URL, its traffic and its content. Each page is moved, merged or retired, and every old address gets a permanent redirect to its closest new equivalent. Content is migrated by script where the structure allows and by hand where it needs rewriting. Before launch, the redirects are tested against the full URL list.
